Thematic Organization: Vases

There are few things that are more uplifting for the spirit and soul like fresh flowers. Today is a day for celebration as you are steadily making progress on transforming your life. Celebrate by gathering all the vases in your home. Clean them if necessary by  washing them in warm, soapy water and rinsing. If you need to clean the inside of a vase and the opening is too small to clean by hand, then use a denture cleaning tablet with water and let it soak for several hours. You can also use vinegar to clean the inside of a vase. Once you have cleaned all the vases, take stock in what you have. Do you want to keep them all? If you need to rehome some of them, here are some ideas:

  • Fill a vase with flowers and give to a family member or friend, just because
  • Use a larger vase for a betta bowl and then use the fish water when you clean the bowl to water your plants
  • Don’t forget your workplace: flowers or a betta enliven your workspace
  • Take to a florist: many florist will take unused flowers and donated vases to make arrangements for a nursing home
  • Donate them to a church or charity organization
  • Fill with flowers and take to a nursing home to give to someone who does not have family come to visit often

After you have all your vases out and ready, go to a super store like Walmart and buy fresh, cheap flowers. If you have a garden, cut some fresh flowers to put in your vases. Fill your home with wonderful flowers to lift your spirits! Put a small vase by your bedside so that when you wake up in the morning, you see something beautiful!

This is the time to begin planting so add some flowering shrubs and bulbs to your landscape so that you have fresh flowers to use in your vases. Hydrangeas, roses, camellias, daffodils, paperwhites, irises, bee balm, gladiolas, and other easy to grow flowers make wonderful flowers for vases.
