Today we are going to clean all the glass knick-knacks around our home. This is a simple task just requiring some warm, soapy water and soft drying towels. The reason we are cleaning these on one day is to gather them all at once and determine if any themes in our items exist. Themes become collections and a group of similar items makes a more impressive display. So, let’s get started:
Gather all your glass decorative items. Place them on the kitchen counter next to the sink. Using a plastic bin, run warm water and add a few drops of dish soap. Dip each item into the warm soapy water and wipe off any dirt, dust or oil. Then rinse the item in warm water and place on a towel to dry. Once all the items are cleaned, assess the items for those that you truly want to keep and those you are wanting to part with. Put the items you don’t want to keep aside for now. For the items you are going to keep, assess to see if there are similarities or themes. Themes such as color, style, or particular use might emerge. As glass reflects light, strategically placed items can add glamour and warmth to a corner that feels cold or empty. Utilizing candles and sunlight to accentuate your glass items help to enhance the vitality of your home. Whether used as a grouping or as a single element, determine where these items would display best in your home. You may want to display them together for a more cohesive look to your decor. For the items that don’t combine in a theme, find a dedicated place to display their charm.
For the items you are going to part with: determine whether they can be sold, given to someone who will appreciate them or donated to charity. This will help to reduce the amount of clutter and unnecessary items in your home.
