Romance in Light: Candles and Warmers

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERARomantic environments enrich our soul! You can create a romantic environment with the soft glow of candles. Candles come in a variety of amazing scents that will stimulate your spirit and increase your enjoyment of your time with family at home. The smallest task is made wonderful when conducted in the presence of candlelight. However, before you rush out to purchase new candles, go ahead and gather the ones that you already have. Utilize these first so that you capitalize on your investment. When you are working on your Transformational Organization tasks and beauty routines, light a scented candle. Bath by candlelight is a ultra relaxing time so gather those candles and put them by the areas that you are going to be working or self-pampering. Caution: make certain that you utilize candles safely and keep out of the reach of children and pets.

When you have exhausted the candles that you have, purchase a few new candles to enliven your home. Select scents that appeal to you and that help you to relax and enjoy your present moments. Eat a meal by candlelight once a week, by yourself or with family or friends. This is a simple luxury that will connect you to the spirit of the Transformational Organization premise: each moment is to be treasured and embraced.

Tip: if you have wax left from older candles such as tapers or other candles that no longer burn, this can be used for a variety of simple crafts. You can melt the old wax down in a used, clean aluminum can in a pan of hot water on the stove. Then try these ideas:

  • Mix all the extra wax together and make a new candle using an old tea cup and saucer or small vase. All you will need is a wick from the craft store. Melt the wax and let cool slightly. Then poor into the tea cup with the wick stationary (roll top of wick over a pencil and rest on the rim of the teacup).
  • Melt the wax and then use as a sealant for the stoppers in bottles of infused vinegars, oils and vodkas.
  • Use the lint from your dryer to make “Firestarters.” Find some pine cones either outside or on clearance after the holidays. Remove the lint from the lint screen of your clothes dryer. Try to remove the lint in a continuous sheet. Take the lint and wrap it around the bottom of the pine cone and press. Use the melted wax to drizzle over the lint going around the pine cone a few times. As the wax cools, press lightly to make it fit to the bottom of the pine cone. Tie a piece of raffia and tie around the lint and pine cone base. Collect these in a basket and use when you want to start a fire in your fireplace or fire pit. The lint catches easily and then the pine cone burns to create enough fire and heat to start your kindling on fire.

Warmers: If you prefer not to have candles burning, wax warmers are an alternative to candles. These warmers melt scented wax using a light bulb instead of a flame. These tend to be safer than candles and there is a huge variety of waxes. The initial cost of the warmer is between 10 and 20 dollars and the wax is usually around five dollars or less. You can reuse the was in the same manner as the candle wax in the above paragraph to prevent waste.  A wax warmer in the kitchen or bedroom provides a stable and constant source of fragrance and also serve as a small source of light. These are great in the evening hours when cooking, having family time or relaxing with a good book.
