The laundry room in most homes is used daily and becomes a safety hazard if not cleaned routinely. Cleaning the dryer vents regularly prevents fires. Additionally, much dirt and dust accumulates underneath the washer and dryer. Here are some hints for making this room more functional and safe.
To clean the washer and dryer: wipe down the outside and inside the lid area with glass cleaner and a soft cloth. Clean all crevices with a toothbrush to remove debris and dirt. Clean the lint filter regularly and vacuum out the cavity where the filter slides into once a month. Periodically, use an inexpensive dryer vent cleaner to clean the entire vent to prevent lint build up. To clean the inside of the washer, run a rinse cycle with 1 cup of white vinegar.
Periodically move the washer and dryer to clean underneath. Wipe down the baseboards and walls behind these appliances.
Cleaning the Iron:
As you are working through the process of the Rainbow Closet: you will be utilizing your iron more. You need to periodically clean the iron and ironing board to keep them in tip top shape. Clean the iron by using a soft cloth dipped in vinegar to remove any starch build up. Wipe the cord and check for wear. Wash the ironing board cover in the washing machine. The frame of the ironing board can be painted with spray paint if it is showing signs of wear.
