Here’s how you can make your own silica gel packets to put into storage bins to reduce/eliminate mold.

1. Go to the pet section at Walmart. Purchase Mimi Cat Litter.
2. Go to the jewelry section at Walmart and pick up a package of gossamer bags. These are little drawstring bags in which you would put jewelry items. You might also find them in the wedding section. You can also use cheesecloth and tie them with ribbon or string.
3. Put 1/4 cup of the silica cat litter in these gossamer bags.
4. Pull the string tightly.
5. Place one of these silica gel bags inside each storage bin in your home, attic, and garage.
6. These packets will significantly reduce the amount of humidity in your storage items thereby reducing the risk of mold.
