Receipts, Manuals and Warrantees

When you purchase a new electronic device, appliance, home accessory, computer, camera, ceiling fan, etc, you will receive a manual, warrantee, and product registration card. These documents are essential for trouble shooting, correct usage and replacement and repair information. The following are my suggestions for organizing these documents:

  • Use an accordion file to house these documents.
  • Label the compartments by general categories such as: appliances, electronics, tools, garden, art, jewelry, home improvement, kitchen appliances.
  • Keep all computer paperwork in a separate accordion file. When repairs are needed, the technician will need all of the documents that came with the computer including discs.
  • Staple the purchase receipt to the user manual for each item.
  • Fill out and send in product registration card. The company will notify you in the case of a recall on that item.
  • If you sell an item, give the manual and relevant documents to the new owner.
