However, I am going to include some suggestions for how to organize your recipes in paper or hard copy form. Family recipe books are important family heirlooms  and it is important to preserve and even share these with family and loved ones.

  • If you have many magazine clippings, photocopies or recipe cards, gather these together and sort them by categories such as: Hordourves, soups, salads, side dishes, meat dishes, fish, poultry, vegetarian, ethnic foods, desserts, and beverages. Create a file folder for each of these to keep them in categories. These recipes can be kept in page protectors, scrapbooks or file folders. You can also create digital versions by scanning.
  • As you use a recipe, scan the recipe along with any comments or suggestions for further dishes and file electronically under a Cookbook Folder.
  • You can also type in a recipe to create your own recipe book of your favorite recipes that you utilize often.
  • For a family heirloom cookbook, you may want to have the book itself copied and give copies to relatives. Another suggestion is to type in all the recipes and illustrate with photos of family photos. Make copies and give as gifts to loved ones.
  • Cooking magazines can be organized following the same system as magazines in the previous section.
  • Cookbooks should be organized in the same manner as the books in your home.
  • Clean the covers of all cookbooks and be certain to check between the pages for any papers.
  • Cookbooks can be used decoratively in the kitchen.
