Decorative Elements of Stone

DSC_0031Home accessories made of stone add permanence and strength to your decor. You are not likely to have may of these decorative elements in your home but for the few you may have, let’s get them cleaned and organized. Stone elements are easy to clean but it is important not to use an acidic cleaner. I suggest a mild solution of gentle dish soap and water. Cleaning these items is really to remove surface dust and oil that may have accumulated on the pieces. Therefore,  simply wash in warm soapy water and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. Remember to check each item for chips or fractures as these may lead to permanent damage. This is also a good to purge/sell what you don’t want to keep. For the items that remain, determine if they look best in a grouping and dedicate a place for them to be stored or displayed. Similar types of stone would look great in a vignette with crystal as a contrast. Candles accentuate the stone veining and strong features of the surface. I prefer at least one decorative item of stone in each room to add a sense of structure to ground the room. Experiment with your pieces and let them speak with their stoic voice in your home.

That’s it: remember your self-pampering routine!!
