Another component in the Transformational Organization process is our daily beauty/health routine. Many people neglect themselves as a result of being busy or at the very least, being overwhelmed. Our transformational process is not just centered on organizing our belongings. The Transformational Organizational Process is ultimately about transforming your life. That means your health, and the way you look and feel about your life. As part of our personal transformational process, we will celebrate our health and well-being with a self-pampering routine. Each daily routine is designed to improve your outward appearance, inward health and happiness all while you are improving your organization and developing peace with your life. Our daily beauty/health care routine will enhance our lives by enhancing our inner and outer beauty while simultaneously utilizing some of the health and beauty products that we have purchased with the purpose of enhancing our lives.
Hydration: An important mandate in the Transformational Organization process is daily and consistent hydration. According to the Mayo Clinic (2008), dehydration can cause symptoms of tiredness, weakness, dizziness and fatigue. When you are dehydrated, you loose energy and therefore, you don’t have the energy to accomplish the things you desire. Throughout this process, you will need to stay hydrated. Drinking more water is an important step in developing healthier habits and necessary for the Transformational Process. Quite simply, drinking more water is the first step to accomplish the life changing goals you are beginning to embrace. To illustrate, the Associated Bodyworks and Massage Professional (2007) advise, “Drink plenty of water after a massage. Bodywork-no matter the particular modality-releases toxins, such as lactic acid and carbonic acid, that need to be flushed from the body.” On this premise, we learn that while we are moving about completing many of the activities in the Transformational Organization process, our muscles are releasing the stored toxins into our systems. For example, a person weighing 150 pounds burns up 204 calories per hour while engaging in homecaring routines and maintenance. If you are burning calories, you are releasing stored toxins as well. The effects of these toxins can mimic flu-like symptoms and make you feel fatigued, sleepy and depressed. Therefore, water is needed to flush out the toxins to enhance our energy levels as well as for our general overall health.
Water and Weightloss: Many of us aspire to lose a few pounds as part of our image transformation. Keep in mind that cells that are hydrated metabolize at a faster rate than cells that are water depleted. In essence, you should be hydrated in order to maximize your metabolism to facilitate weight loss.
Daily Exercise: Dedicated Exercise is a great way to reward yourself with an activity such as a long walk. How about calling a friend to walk with you? Explore some other exercise options such as go for a bike ride, swimming or tennis. Exercise is a very important part of our transformation process. I know that you may dread that exercise part but in order to transform our lives, we will need to get enough exercise to help with any desired weight loss and to positively benefit our health. Exercise will help us to feel better, sleep better and have more energy to continue on this process. Let’s consider our pets too. Our dogs would love to go on a walk and we will simultaneously begin to transform their life too.
Remember: Just a daily 15-20 minute session of brisk walking or other exercise (preferably with your family and pet too) will begin the total transformation of our health (15 minutes of outdoor time to access the Vitamin D wouldn’t hurt either). Make your exercise time a family event: Have your children ride bikes or roller blade while you walk at a fast pace. Call a friend or family member: create an exercise group: or join an established group for meeting this daily need for exercise! Remember our daily exercise needs to be a cardiovascular exercise to achieve the maximum benefit for your health. This is a requirement and is fundamental to the Transformational Organization Process.
Health and Beauty Routine Schedule:
Day One or Monday: Facial/Skin Care Day
Day Two or Tuesday: Pedicure/Manicure
Day Three or Wednesday: Hair day
Day Four or Thursday: Dental Hygiene Day
Day Five or Friday: Facial/Skin Care Day
Day Six or Saturday: Dedicated Exercise/Family Fun Physical Activity
Day Seven or Sunday: Spiritual/Creative Day
You can either use the day-one-through-six schedule or the days-of-the-week schedule. Use the system that works best with your life. It is also not relevant which activity you select for each day. It is only important that you follow the framework and you keep up with the schedule.
As we progress through the Transformational Organizational process, we will look and feel better. We will become healthier and happier. This program is not just about organizing our belongings. It is about transforming how we look and feel through organization, taking care of ourselves and developing our inner gifts and talents. We strive in each and every action to better our lives, our health and the lives of those around us. In this way, we are making the most of each and every day while acquiring peace and harmony in our homes and our lives. It is wonderful to have the time to do everything we wish to do and not feel like we are losing our minds all of the time. After we complete this program, when we take a deep breath, it won’t be due to chaos and frustration. It will be a deep breath that rejuvenates and relaxes.
Multi-Task /Be Beautiful
Let me suggest another important point: one way to do more with less time is to multi-task or simultaneously combine your organizational tasks with your beauty routines. We can use some of toiletry items while we are cleaning and organizing. Whitening teeth, conditioning our hair and other beauty treatments can be done while we are conducting a home caring activity. Taking care of ourselves is not a luxury; it is a necessity. By using the products which we have already purchased to better our lives and saving time by using them while we are transforming our homes, we are gaining the maximum benefit. By not using the products that we have purchased, we are creating in “investment deficit.” We are not making our investment in this product work for us. One of the embedded goals of the Transformational Organization process is to help us to save money. By incorporating what we have purchased into our daily beauty routines, is the“wisest utilization” of the investment of our money in that product. In addition, it helps us to keep clutter to a minimum by avoiding over purchasing and storage issues with too many products. Simultaneously, we are utilizing our investments to enhance our beauty and health! This is the win-win aspect at the heart of the Transformational Organization process. First use what we have on hand, (especially the “half-empties), then purchase only when a product is needed. Reflecting back to our caveat of “Capitalize on your Resources,” using what we have is a form of good stewardship and is less wasteful. This saves money and our sanity.
For Example: This is How it Works
Pedicure
One you have finished your daily Transformational Organization objective or goal, celebrate by pampering yourself with a pedicure/manicure. Begin by gathering all of your pedicure/manicure products together. Find a basket or decorative box to put them in. This will be our pampering session for each Tuesday of the week for the rest of this month and beyond. Give yourself a pedicure/manicure each week on the same day. Don’t worry, I’ll remind you. In a very short time, your feet will look and feel great! Also you are using your products that you have and enriching your life at the same time. See how this works!!
If it has been too long since your last pedicure, here’s a simple pedicure process:
- Gather all of your pedicure/manicure products (in the nice container)
- Remove old nail polish.
- Trim toenails straight across. File until smooth.
- Soak feet in warm water and Epsom salts for 15 minutes.
- Gently scrub your feet with exfoliating scrub.
- Use the nail brush for under nails and cuticles, gently pushing them back.
- Hairy feet are unattractive on ladies so don’t be afraid to shave those toes!!
- Rinse feet and dry.
- Rub lotion on your feet and let dry for 10 minutes. Put on a pair of clean cotton socks and be careful when you are walking that you don’t slip.
- After 10-15 minutes, remove the socks. Apply a new coat of polish in one of the colors that you have. Let dry. Repeat.
- Wow!! Don’t you feel great!
- Now do the same process for your hands!!!
You are using the products that you have and enriching you life!!
Just think how great your feet and hands are going to look in just a few short weeks.
Let’s try to use the products that we have first, and then when needed (and partially through this process) you’ll need to purchase some products for your weekly pedicure/ manicure. Stick with it and you’ll be reminded of your progress each and every time you look at your increasingly lovely hands and feet. Keep with the routine as routines become habits. Resist the urge to make excuses for not keeping with the routine as making excuses becomes habitual too.
While you are at it, look at your pedicure/manicure kit that you have made. Check the polishes to see if they are still good. Throw away any that are clotted. If you see a couple that are a bit thick, but still usable, keep them for a specific use later. I put mine in a zipper storage bag and use them later in another organizing task.
Hair Conditioning
Our hair is sometimes a dominant feature in our appearance. Healthy hair makes us feel beautiful! Taking care of our hair is a smart investment of our time as it enhances our outer beauty and confidence. Let’s care for our hair! Here’s how we get started:
- Washing hair in the shower or sink.
- Apply conditioning product. Here’s a site for some home made recipes for beauty products http://www.healthrecipes.com/homemade_beauty_recipes.htm.
- Wrap your hair in a towel. Let sit for 30 minutes.
- Rinse your hair.
- Examine your hair in the mirror. Is it time for a hair cut? Look at the ends. Issues here? You’ll feel better when you have a good hair cut.
- Call and schedule an appointment for a hair cut if needed.
Dental Hygiene
Let’s talk about dental hygiene items first. Toothbrushes should be in good condition and clean. Toothbrushes with frayed bristles or bristles that are beginning to separate need to be replaced. They can be replaced as a part of your cleaning routine (once a month or every other month) and always keep a few extras on hand. Purchase only soft bristled brushes. During your weekly bathroom cleaning you can disinfect toothbrushes by putting them in a sturdy mug of water and adding a denture cleaning tablet or antiseptic mouthrinse. After you have incorporated this and other routines into your daily life, you may find that your dental bills decrease and your oral health improves (not to mention your breath). This is a good thing for you and your family. Keep one worn toothbrush for cleaning purposes later though. Toothbrushes; done!!
Let’s go on to floss. Should we floss? Yes. We probably have it on hand in the bathroom and our strategy is to “USE IT OR LOSE IT”. In the case of floss, we are going to use it instead of lose it. Why? Number one, it will help prevent dental health maladies thereby lowering the need for dental visits and ultimately the cost of dental services. It also saves time in the dental chair. Number two, it is one of the steps we will take in order to have a comprehensive improvement in our lives. Flossing is good for us and we will have enough time to do it daily once we are finished incorporating the strategies from the Transformational Organization system. We will not only have more time, but we will be in the habit of taking better care of ourselves and our families. Purchase floss using coupons and keep a few extras on hand. Coupons for floss don’t come out very often, so when they do stock up on a couple. Get any dental appliance helpers that you need when you pick floss up. Bridge cleaners and whiteners, oral rinses and topical pain relievers for that occasional toothache. You can keep all of these items together in a bin, or basket so that you can quickly assess needed items as you develop your monthly cleaning and shopping routines.
Facial/ Skin Care Day
Organize your facial products in the same way you organized your pedicure/manicure basket. Use these products while you are working to take care of the delicate skin on your face and neck. Use an exfoliant to rid the dead skin cells dulling your complexion. Rinse well and apply a moisturizing product. Try a rejuvenating mask or steam treatment. You already have these products in your bathroom and the money you have spent on them is wasted unless you use them. Go ahead and make yourself beautiful! You will enjoy the process of recovering your life if you are able to see the personal results in how you look and feel. Grab your basket of facial goodies and enjoy a facial weekly.
Now about the rest of your skin: remember to exfoliate in the shower. Immediately after your shower, apply moisturizer and perhaps even a sunless tanner. We feel great when we have that healthy glow to our skin. Daily moisturizing is a great idea but today is a special day for our skin and we want to spend a little extra time keeping our largest organ in shape. Remember to look for any moles or discolorations that are irregular and see your dermatologist right away if they are a concern.
Spiritual/Creative Day
Everyone needs a day of rest. This is the day to nurture your spirit whether religiously, creatively, or quality time with loved ones. One thing I have learned is that you cannot work every day and that appropriate healthy selfishness is a good thing. You will stay on course if you take time to enjoy important areas of your life and taking the time to rejuvenate and refresh. Creativity is one way to rejuvenate yourself. Gather all your crafty, creative items and put them in a dedicated basket, bin or drawer/closet. Take time each week to begin utilizing these resources to express your creativity and to engage in an activity you love. We will get back to the organization tomorrow, but for today, nurture your spirit, make a simple, low-stress meal, and relax in a hot bath. End your week end with peace and happiness, love and warmth. You will feel better and be more motivated to continue on the path to Total Transformation.
Now that we have our schedule of beauty routines, let’s get started on the actual transformation!
